Chorus Box Singing New LifeMany people have been enjoying the freshly painted Chorus box at the intersection of Miranda St and Blockhouse Bay Rd. It was painted by professional artist Sean McCarthy of Titirangi. He wanted to paint something positive for the kids to look at. “I would have loved to have seen something like that as a kid when I came out of school” he says. While he says the children in the photo are not any particular Glenavon School children, he admits they were modelled off a photo. Who do you think they could be? The Glenavon box is the fifth one Mr McCarthy has painted. He has also painted one on Portage Rd near Craigavon Park, and one on Whitney St. He says the positive response from the community is huge, with lots of people stopping to talk to him about his work. Thursday SportYouthtown have unfortunately had to shift their Thursday Sport Programme elsewhere. The good news is, Simon Mahoney, the Youth Pastor at Blockhouse Bay Baptist Church, has kindly taken over the running of the programme. Youthtown have generously donated some sports gear for us to use, and still offer support occasionally such as free tickets to Rainbow's End. Thursday Sport is every Thursday during school term at 4:00pm Have a Go Ladies NightGlenavon Ladies Night was plenty of fun for everybody. MC Janine Toatapu had everyone laughing and playing games, with plenty of spot prizes given away. Every lady received a goodie bag to take home. There was lots of eating happening, with ladies making sushi, samosas, dumplings and cupcakes. Don't think Trish's Zumba was enough to work all that off... Thanks to the many volunteers and businesses who donated their time, money, food and giveaways. |
